Creator Spotlight: Scott Fitzgerald

Scott Fitzgerald and ROC Vox Studio

Summary

Every week Podium features the work of our amazing community. This week we are featuring Scott Fitzgerald, owner of ROC Vox Studio, a full-service recording studio based in Rochester, NY. Scott has produced a feature-length film and was one of the first podcast recording studios in the state of NY.

Can you please introduce yourself and tell us about your background in podcast editing and production?

I started podcasting in 2005, back when it was way more difficult than it is now. I’ve been in audio and video production since 1995 and worked professionally in radio until the pandemic. In 2018, I started my voice-over and podcast studio as a side hustle until it became my full time gig in 2020. I dedicate my business to helping people tell their stories.

I also co-wrote and produced a feature film titled Bottom Feeders which can be watched on Amazon Prime and YouTube.

ROC Vox is a full service studio in Rochester, NY but we have podcasting and eLearning clients from all over the world.

What inspired you to become a podcast editor/producer, and how did you get started in the industry?

As a radio host and audio/video producer, I’ve been producing for many years. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I was able to transition to a full-time studio owner.

What's your process when working with a client to create a podcast? What's distinctive about how you work with clients?

Because of my technical knowledge and also my hosting experience, I’m able to help my clients with the entire process.

What are some of the most important elements of storytelling and narrative structure in podcast production?

These words contribute to success in storytelling: patience, persistence and passion. If you want to add a fourth word, consistency.

What advice do you have for someone looking to start their own podcast, in terms of content creation, marketing, and monetization?

I believe it is important that you know your audience and respect their time. Get to the point and tell your story, trim off all the fat.

How is AI changing your workflow and how has Podium helped?

Podium has helped me with the transcription process and saves me time coming up with title ideas, summaries and all of that which takes time. It’s a useful tool for some of the longer podcasts. I have a love/hate relationship with AI because it’s positioning itself to put me out of work eventually. So I have to try and make sure that I offer services that no AI can mimic.

How can people get in touch with you if they're interested in working with you?

My contact information is on my website rocvox.com or via Instagram @rocvoxrecording

Anything else?

ROC Vox was the first studio of its kind in Western NY, and only the second podcast studio in the state when we opened.
